“God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds. He created the horizon when he separated the waters; he set the boundary between day and night. The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke. By his power, the sea grew calm. By his skill, he crushed the great sea monster. His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent. These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?” Job 26:7-14 NLT
The Bible talks about God’s power. It is a power matched by no living being. There is no other force that can create from nothingness. This all-powerful being is referred to in the Bible as the “Mighty One”.
“The Lord, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets.” Psalm 50:1 NLT
He is also referred to as “God Almighty”.
“May God Almighty bless you and give you many children. And may your descendants multiply and become many nations!” Genesis 28:3 NLT
When you see the name “El Shaddai” in the Bible it is the same as saying “God Almighty”.
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai ‘God Almighty.` “Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life.” Genesis 17:1 NLT
Another way of referring to our All-powerful God is “The Lord God Omnipotent”.
“And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” Revelation 19:6 NKJV
We should take comfort in the fact that nothing in God’s created universe, even comes close to the strength and power of the One who created everything. If we feel like we are experiencing something so devastating that we cannot possibly survive it, remember, there is someone stronger than our worst nightmare. The greatest terror that we can imagine is but a tickle in His neck. If we hold tight to His mighty hand, nothing can harm us. It is God’s greatest desire and pleasure to care for us and protect us from harm.
“Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb, you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you!” Psalm 71:6 NLT
“I will be your God throughout your lifetime until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” Isaiah 46:4 NLT
“They will fight you, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Jeremiah 1:19 NLT
”O Israel, stay away from idols! I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” Hosea 14:8 NLT
“And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Matthew 6:30 NLT
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
This loving, tender, and caring being is the one that demons flee from. He sustains the galaxies in their place. He knows how many stars are in the skies and how many hairs are on our heads. He is the mightiest being in all existence. Yet, this All-powerful, Almighty, Omnipotent God of the universe thinks about you and me and cares about our fragile existence. We are in His mind constantly. Don’t try to understand or try to make sense of how it is that He can think of each one of us all at the same time. We are human, such things are beyond our comprehension. God exists outside of our dimensional realm. His intellectual powers surpass any known science. There is no explanation for His mighty power and abilities. Just know that we are under His watchful care. Nothing can approach us without His approval. When trials do come upon us, remember that they came through Him first. He allows it to make us stronger. He already has a way out of every hardship before we get to face it.
Think about God and His goodness. Think about how powerful He is and how weak we are. Often, we tend to think that we can handle things all on our own. We forget that there are spiritual forces vying for our attention, competing for our choices so that we make unwise decisions. We need to understand that God’s strength is magnified when we are weak. Not that we are powerless in the face of the enemy, but that God’s omnipotent strength becomes evident when we allow Him to work through us.
“Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ can work through me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT
When we allow our ego to dictate our behavior, we are doing what is natural for us to do. Our nature is sinful. This is how we were born.
“For I was born a sinner, yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.” Psalm 51:5 NLT
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” Romans 3:23 NLT
“And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.” Romans 7:18 NLT
But when we allow our creator to live through us, our will becomes weak, and His will becomes strong within us. That’s when His power lights up our countenance and we feel like nothing can knock us down. We can stand firm and face a legion of demons and say with confidence, “I am not afraid of you!” and they will quickly flee. Not because they see you, but because of the one standing beside you.
“So, humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 NLT
Understanding how awesome and All-powerful God is should make us feel secure in that nothing that appears to be devastating and terrorizing will ever destroy us. Acknowledging that we have no strength to defeat the powers of darkness, gives us the advantage by allowing God to work through us. Our weakness magnifies His strength.
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NLT
“He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” Psalm 147:4-5 NLT
“For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 4:20 NLT
“But the Lord made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding, he stretched out the heavens. When he speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain. He causes the clouds to rise over the earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses.” Jeremiah 1:12-13 NLT
“The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18 NLT
Let us allow this mighty and all-powerful God to live in us and we will never be defeated.
